How to Buy QTUM | Step-by-Step Guide

qtum

QTUM is a blockchain project with a large presence in Asian cryptocurrency markets. A very large percentage of QTUM trade volume comes from Korean and Chinese cryptocurrency exchanges.

With that said, this guide will focus on helping English speaking investors learn how to buy QTUM from exchanges that are friendly to users located in English speaking countries. Below we’ll show you the step-by-step process.

The Exchanges We’ll Be Covering

The exchanges we’ll be covering are cryptocurrency only exchanges. This means that you’ll need to use Bitcoin or Ethereum to buy QTUM with.

If you don’t already own these cryptocurrencies, you can see how to buy Bitcoin and Ethereum here.

How to Buy QTUM on Binance

While Binance is operated throughout Asia, United States customers have actually made up the largest percentage of Binance users by country. The exchange offers multi-language support and has a worldwide customer base.

You can learn more about Binance in our review.

1) Create Your Binance Account

The first step is to sign up for a Binance account. Registration is simple, only requiring an email address and to create a password.

Binance Sign up Register

Once you've submitted the registration form, you'll need to verify your email address. This is simply done by clicking the link Binance has emailed you.

2) Secure Your Binance Account

Upon logging into your account for the first time, you'll likely be prompted to enable 2-Factor Authentication (2FA). While this is not required, it's highly recommended.

Binance 2FA Prompt

2FA helps to secure your account by requiring an additional passcode when login attempts are made.??Binance offers 2FA through the Google Authenticator App and SMS text messaging. We recommend using Google Authenticator, as SMS 2FA has known security vulnerabilities.

Once you select Google Authenticator, Binance will show you step-by-step how to set it up.

Binance Google Authenticator Set Up

You can also set up 2FA at any time from your "Account" page.

Binance Account Page

From your "Account" page, you'll also be able to submit verification documents, should you need higher withdrawal limits than the default 2 BTC equivalent per 24 hours.

3) Deposit Bitcoin or Ethereum to Binance

Locate the "Deposits" page, under "Funds" in the main menu. Here you can search for the cryptocurrency you want to deposit. We recommend Ethereum over Bitcoin, as it's faster and has lower network fees (fees from their respective networks, not Binance).

In this example, we'll be depositing 1 ETH.

Binance Deposit Ethereum Step 1

Once you've selected the cryptocurrency you want to deposit (in our case Ethereum), Binance will give you an address where you can send your deposit.

Binance Deposit Ethereum Step 2

After you've sent funds to the given address from your cryptocurrency wallet, your deposit will soon show up as pending while it completes the required number of block confirmations. For our ETH deposit, it took about 5 minutes for our deposit to be completed. Other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, that have longer block confirmation times, will take longer to deposit.

Step 4 – Buy QTUM on Binance

Locate the Binance exchange (1). Use the search bar on the right side of the platform to find your trading pair (2).

One you click through to your trading pair page, use the “Buy QTUM” form to place a purchase order (3). Binance offers both limit order and market order options. With a market order, you simply need to enter the amount of QTUM you want to buy and the exchange will automatically fill your order at the best available price.

Note: This account had been used for other transactions prior to this QTUM purchase, thus the difference in the starting ETH balance from what was deposited above.

Binance charges a 0.1% fee, which will be taken out of the QTUM you purchase. Your QTUM will be available in your wallet on the “Deposit & Withdrawals” page.

How to Buy QTUM on Bittrex

The process for buying QTUM on Bittrex is very similar to the process we just went over for Binance. One important difference is that Bittrex requires additional personal information to withdraw funds from their platform.

You will need to provide your name, address, and date of birth to be able to withdraw any cryptocurrency from Bittrex. This will allow you to withdraw the equivalent of 0.4 BTC per day. Your withdrawal limits can be increased by submitting identity verification documents.

Step 1 – Sign Up to Bittrex

Initially, you’ll only need to enter your email address and create a password to sign up to Bittrex.

Step 2 – Log in, Verify, and Secure Your Account

After you log into your Bittrex account, navigate to your account settings. Here you can begin the verification process.

Step 3 – Deposit Cryptocurrency to Bittrex

Locate the “Wallets” page of your Bittrex account. You can use the search bar to find the cryptocurrency you want to deposit, then click the “+” symbol next to the cryptocurrency. You will be shown an address where you can send funds to make your deposit.

Step 4 – Buy QTUM on Bittrex

By clicking the Bittrex logo in the upper left-hand corner, you can view all Bittrex markets. Once on this page, use the search bars to find your desired QTUM trading pair.

Bittrex QTUM Markets

Once on the correct trading pair page, use the “BUY QTUM” trade form to place your order. Unlike Binance, Bittrex does not offer market orders.

This means you’ll need to place a limit buy order. For a limit buy order, you’ll have to enter both the amount of QTUM you want to buy (Units) and the price you’re willing to pay (Bid).

Bittrex Buy QTUM

You can view what prices other buyers are offering (BIDS) and what prices sellers are asking for (ASKS) in the “ORDER BOOK” below the order form.

Bittrex charges a 0.25% trade commission. This will be taken from your Bitcoin or Ethereum balance and added to the cost of your total order.

After you’re buy order has been filled, the QTUM you purchased will be available in your wallet.
